Brainstorming College Ministry
By Chuck on Oct 14, 2008 in Featured
It’s always nice to think through things with someone else - or a team of people. But there’s something different about doing it with the RIGHT person or people! So, I invited a life long friend of mine, and a board member of CollegeLeader up here to Portland to help me think through some things. Jonathan is a great guy, has a ton of business and ministry experience, but he also loves the local church and understands our need to minister to college-age people in that context! We sat outside my favorite coffee shop for about 3 hrs. talking, brainstorming, dreaming, coming up with logistics, etc.
Now, I’m sitting on my couch, with both of our macs on our laps nd taking a break
Specifically we are thinking through how we can more effectively help college-age ministry leaders around the country. We are coming up with a number of avenues that we are very excited about because we think we’re hitting the core needs of people working in this ministry. I will fill you in at a later date, but - and I’ve never asked for this up to this point - but please pray that we can truly develop something that will help!

Chuck,
We have been brainstorming in my church (in Anchorage, Alaska) about our ministry on the local college campus and have all kinds of ideas floating around. I find it frustrating though that there isn’t really much of a support network here for college ministry and it is hard for us to share our ideas with others doing the same kind of work. It is encouraging to hear you are working to address that need. Do you know of any existing online communities or forums for discussing college ministry that I might look into for tossing ideas around? Thanks, Chuck. I will be sure to be in prayer for you guys!

As someone new to college-aged ministry (going on 2 months now), I am excited about the possibilties of your brain storming session. I too am looking for a resource of information and a support network to help me grow and nurture our small college-aged group. I will certainly be praying for God to give you clarity and resources to further His kingdom among this age group. Thanks for all you do and for this blog which I turn to daily.

thanks for your feedback guys. you are not the only ones that desire to be connected to a network of people! this is part of what we’re doing - developing learning networks. so, hang in there for another couple weeks…it’s coming.

I read Brink’s blog and read about his connection with you during his time in Portland. I live in north Beaverton. I’d be interesting in hearing more about your college ministry vision. Outside of the way at solid rock…most churches have really struggled to make a college ministry a strength of their church on the westside of Portland.

Chuck and friends,
Rock On! I am fired up about your work in helping those of us in this ministry build a bank of wisdom and creativity!
Praying for you….now.

Hey Chuck -
I too am intrigued to see what you guys settle on. After the big trip last year, I’ve been thinking a lot about how it may take some focused, committed group - much like Youth Specialties did with Youth Ministry - to develop the field. There is such a crazy diversity nationwide, but we need something. Thanks for working on it.
