John Piper’s view reminds me of why I sometimes hate being a Christian. I am for women to have the choice to have an abortion or not–it is not our job to make that decision or take the option away from others. I am not saying this because I want to start the whole abortion (pro-choice vs. pro-life) debate, because please, none of us want that! But when Christians in the spotlight are so one-sided on sticky, cultural arguments, I become really ashamed to be associated with the religion.
“But when Christians in the spotlight are so one-sided on sticky, cultural arguments, I become really ashamed to be associated with the religion.”
Why is it that their called “sticky, cultural arguments”? It’s not a matter of being “one-sided” It’s a matter of what God desires in His word and world. I find it sad/funny/whatever that when a “Christian in the spotlight” actually stands up strong for the word of God, they are to “one-sided”. Christ did not call us to “get along” with everyone else, He called us to speak the truth in Love. The hard part is that people will not ever view that speaking the truth and love can co-exist. For way too long the Church has allowed the government to dictate life, and that is our short coming as a body of Christ, so much so that even “followers of Christ” don’t know what God has for us. We get so caught up in making people happy, “how dare you impose on MY freedoms?!” Instead of really desiring to pursue a life of Christ centered living. It goes far beyond the pro-life/choice issue. GOD is the issue. We have removed God out of everything and now we refuse to allow Him back in, which in turn has caused people to ignore Him completely, even within the Church body. I’m glad to hear John Piper so passionate, not only him but other ministers and such that will boldly proclaim the word of God in truth AND love.
Freedom is Better.
I like that idea so much I bought the domain.
Freedom is so valuable because it is from God. Therefore, since freedom is valuable it is also worth protecting. We protect freedom’s all the time. That’s a “truth” that college-age people will say yes to, right – defending people’s personal freedom!
This issue is about defending the personal freedom of the babies inside their moms. Their freedom is in conflict with the freedom of the mom to be free from pregnancy. Which freedom should prevail? I believe that the freedom to live is the God given one.
I’m all for creating dialogue and giving people space to discuss and wrestle with issues with God. And I’m all for getting to the point of an issue – which is what Mr. Piper did in this case, expressing his convictions. He is free to do just that – for now.

Wow! It is nice to see a well known fellow Christian and preacher actually take a stand against abortion like this! Abortion is wrong and is sin because it’s simply murder and there is no other way to explain it. As Christians, was are called to stand for the Word and what it says!
