Good insights for us
I recently read a blog post by a girl who wrote about her reasonings of “walking out” on church. I think she’s honest, not bitter yet realistic…and good thoughts for all of us to keep in mind. Here’s a quick blurb:
“Today, I went to Bismarck Evangel Temple, sat through the worship and most of the sermon, and then…walked out before it was done.
I don’t blame that church; it is my own inability to fit that literally forced me to leave. I don’t really doubt their sincerity, and that many people love the programs and opportunities that church provides. I’ve even found, in the past, a few sermons to be interesting. But…

Fantastic post!
Here is my question to youth/college leader:
As much as we have publically abhored the MTV influence on America and the rest of Western civilization, why do we look to duplicate it in our youth and young adult churches?
You guys should also read this if you haven’t already. I found it on Julie’s page.
I have heard this complaint, plea, or whatever you call it, for a while now, especially from my generation. So why aren’t we responding?
I enjoyed reading the article. I agree with many of her points. As a former youth pastor, I am frustrated that so many youth ministries, and therefore churches, have sacrificed authenticity for glitz, glamour, programs and an addiction to being relevant. For that, I thank her.
At the same time, as the church, we are the bride of Christ. We have the privilege of being part of God’s Kingdom at work. Through all the frustration and exhaustion of attempting to change the culture in some of our churches, we are still his bride and called to be part of it. With that, sometimes it means we become reformers by being more active in helping change the culture.
Needless to say, I have and will continue to pass this article around. People need to hear what she is saying.
