Wanna Help?

Chuck on November 23rd, 2009

I’m trying to finish up some chapters in a forthcoming book (The Slow Fade).  Do you want to help?  It’s easy.  If you’re working in college ministry I would love to see your job description!!!  Did the church you’re at give you one?  If you could get it to me in one of the following ways that would be great.  I’m not going to be quoting any one individually, my goal is to see how they all compare to one another in a variety of areas.  Anyway, if you’re up for it, you can get it to me:

  • by posting it in the comments section – this might be good for others to see as well
  • by sending an email to stacy@colossaechurch.org
  • by putting a link to a URL I can check out.

Thanks a ton.

I’m a few hours a week staff & the rest volunteer college director – my job description includes:
- build volunteer teams to run various components of the community (worship, life groups, food, missions)
- administrate wed night gathering
- plan series & teaching focus for wed night gathering (using a rotation of a team of several teachers)
- mentor & lead volunteer leadership team (both “adults” and students)
this is usually done between 5-10 hours per week (in case anyone cares)

job description? hahaha!!! good one!
but seriously, the college ministry was rather shoved on us a couple years ago. the church didnt have a structure in place for the students, so no job description was given…we’ve made it up as we’ve gone!
Scott is the Business Administrator for the church and private school (includes all financials, HR, building and grounds management) and the college minister. for the ministry side of his job his duties include:
-leading Bible study once a week
-small groups/accountability type meetings on a weekely basis
-leading sunday school weekly
I have a “secular job” but for my part of the minisrty I do:
-cook dinner for the students before weekly Bible study time
-plan events and trips
-communication (facebook fan page, blog, twitter accounts)
-general “mothering” of all the students :) (we dont have kids of our own)
aside from those specific things, we just try to “do life” with as many of our students as possible!
Since we didn’t/don’t have an official job description from the church, it’s always interesting to see how others do their ministry!
